Experiences of racism in Scotland’s night time economy
Coalition for racial equality and rightsIn August 2023, CRER published new research highlighting the serious and widespread issue of racism in Scotland’s night-time economy, which contribute to some pubs, bars and nightclubs becoming hostile environments for many Black and minority ethnic (BME) people.
This mixed methods research used the authentic lived experience of young BME people alongside digital and field-based research to explore cultural and systemic racism within Scottish nights out and how this affects people’s participation in the night-time economy and associated sub-cultures.

Sexual harassment is rising inside London’s clubs
BBC LondonGoing for a night out should be safe in any city but in London reports of sexual harassment are on the rise. And for women in particular, it’s becoming a much more common experience. Figures from the Met Police show the number of reported sexual offences on licensed premises have gone up by about a third in the past three years. But Good Night Out is hoping its training will enable staff at clubs and bars to become more aware of how to help tackle this crime.
